james & caitlyn. caitlyn & james. high school sweethearts, public servants (literally) and two of the most gracious, generous, loving people you will ever meet. right from the get go i knew they were my kind of people…mostly that just means they know how to laugh and they sometimes laugh at my jokes. which is really all it takes to win me over (in case you wondering). since then, they’ve taken me up to their secret riverside hideout in the mountains for their engagement and invited me into their new home on the day they got their keys. so basically we’re best friends. i’ve grown to love you two (it didn’t take much) and now that i’ve met your families, i love them too (that took a little more convincing. kidding!!). here’s a slideshow to help y’all who were there relive some of the special moments and for those of you who weren’t, it gives a glimpse into the love that was shared.
**keep your eyes peeled for: the hands down best reaction of the bridesmaids seeing the bride ready, the many face of james (the hair face, the deep inhale/exhale of “something big just happened, etc), the aerial moves of the best man, tears…so many beautiful loving tears.

it’s engagement season…one of my favorite times of year. spending time with couples who are in love is inspiring, there’s just no getting around it. i feel like if captain hook or the joker had surrounded themselves with people who were in love, they would have lived their lives much differently. thoughts?
while you ponder that, here are a few snippets from some recent engagement sessions – can’t wait for their spring/summer weddings!!
corey&ashley: the perfect winter morning…aside from the fact that corey kept trying to shove/convince ashley to jump into the frozen lake.
brad & sarah: could her scrunched nose smile be any cuter? probably not. i love these two and not just because they are incredibly good looking. their hearts are golden. really truly.
matt & sam: they booked me without having met me, which made me adore them that much more. their love story is incredible…let’s just say don’t write off high school reunions as a place to reignite that spark!

levi & lisa are dear friends, so you can imagine my delight when they invited me to photograph their wedding day. levi is absolutely devoted to his girl…one of my favorite stories about his early desire to please her came in the form of a bike ride. a group of friends decided to bike to the lake: only about 30 km each way and since lisa was going, levi figured this would be the perfect time to impress her. what he didn’t realize was that these friends he was riding with were serious cyclists, like the “let’s ride from BC to Mexico for fun” kind of serious. they actually stopped by our house on the way there and i wondered who this fresh faced stranger was and which one of the many girls on this ride he might be sweet on 🙂 needless to say, this was not the easy ride he had expected…approaching the lake, you are required to ascend a serious hill which slowed him down considerably, but he thought “the way home will be fine because it’s downhill.” but sure enough, the way down was slow as well and he found the group waiting for him as he plodded along far behind. finally, he told them to go ahead and he would meet them at home…only to get a flat tire and be stuck in the middle of nowhere with no phone or gas station in sight.
as you can see, this dude is committed. which is one of the reasons i know their marriage will be great. their day was that of dreams…they met in the forest for a first look and then took communion together, laying the foundation for the rest of the day. it was full of joy, tears, remembrance and hope and i’m so glad i got to be there for it all.
lisa’s grandpa was wearing the same suit and bow tie he wore on his wedding day, 50+ years ago. and it still fits!!
