there was a sweet conversation that took place as cherri-anne was getting ready the morning of her wedding. i told her i was entering her contact into my phone with her new last name and all the girls had a giggle over how weird it was that she was now going to have a husband. a second later, though, they all agreed that it wasn’t weird at all. they have always been “nick & cherri”. it had been so long since anyone had said one name without the other. first love, high school sweethearts…they fit right from the start. so it only made sense that they make it official…and after seeing cherri anne at so many weddings on the other side of the coin (she’s a talented hair stylist and owns her own salon), it was fun for me to capture her being pampered for once. it was her turn! cherri-anne has such a sweet relationship with her dad. i learned that she is one of two girls born to their family in five generations, so she is a treasured woman. its’ nice knowing that the kielstras will take good care of her…after doing three of their son’s weddings, they’ve welcomed me like family and i love them to pieces.

oh man, if there’s one thing i know, it’s that i will be doing a whole lot of laughing at this adorable couple’s august wedding. christy has the brightest smile and marc can’t sit still, so they make for a pretty fun combo. thanks for literally traipsing through fields with me, you guys…and keep working on your model poses for me, marc. can’t wait to see what you cook up for the wedding.

these two are a funny pair, bonded together by a love of brown shoes and inappropriate jokes, they are clearly meant to be together. their engagement was short, their wedding small, but their love is big. a glimpse into their delightful day…

“more city, less vintage country” is how they describe themselves, so it’s only fitting they will be wed in vancouver next month in a modern building with a garden backdrop. the irony comes in the fact they don’t really live anywhere near a city and have chosen to set up their home in a fairly rural lakeside community. it seemed only right, then, that we take some time to document their life in the country during their engagement session, if only to give their friends and family a glimpse of the place they call home (and to show they may just have a little country in their bones after all).
stay tuned for images from their van dusen garden wedding in a few weeks!

lots of people ask: what do we do if it’s raining the day of our session. why, we go to the beach, of course. SO much laughter with these two…which helped brighten our spirits because it was REALLY wet! their fall wedding is up at howe sound brewing company in squamish and after a recent trip to scout it out, i know it’s going to be magical!

brody was cautious, which i really respect. while he admired her intelligence and was drawn to her beautiful smile, she was inspired by his strong character. they took their time getting to know each other before committing seriously (which at the time was kind of annoying for amanda as she sure felt ready ;).
now here they are on the brink of being married and there’s no mistaking…it’s love. the roads were slightly treacherous coming down and we found ourselves stuck behind someone who had no clue how to drive in snow (it would have been comical if it wasn’t so terribly dangerous), so we ended up on a detour right past this rock face. thank you, bad driver and lady who insisted on trying to push the passenger’s side of the truck to try and get it off the shoulder (like i said, comical). so looking forward to their wedding at the ubc boathouse this summer!

“koreans all look alike”, she said. “it’s okay, i can say that because i’m korean. so i was at a conference and there was this room full of korean men, all dressed in suits, looking exactly alike. except for one. he was wearing a suit, but when he sat down, you could see just a hint of a rainbow sock peeking out from under his pant leg. that intrigued me.”

it’s engagement season…one of my favorite times of year. spending time with couples who are in love is inspiring, there’s just no getting around it. i feel like if captain hook or the joker had surrounded themselves with people who were in love, they would have lived their lives much differently. thoughts?
while you ponder that, here are a few snippets from some recent engagement sessions – can’t wait for their spring/summer weddings!!
corey&ashley: the perfect winter morning…aside from the fact that corey kept trying to shove/convince ashley to jump into the frozen lake.
brad & sarah: could her scrunched nose smile be any cuter? probably not. i love these two and not just because they are incredibly good looking. their hearts are golden. really truly.
matt & sam: they booked me without having met me, which made me adore them that much more. their love story is incredible…let’s just say don’t write off high school reunions as a place to reignite that spark!
