i took their picture before i knew their names. for the average person, that’s a weird thought, maybe even creepy. for a wedding photographer, it’s pretty standard practice. I spend much of the day, when not fully trained on the bride and groom, scanning the room, searching for moments, connections, beauty to document. just so happened, ryan & brittin were that beauty on a hot summer wedding day last year. little did i (or they) know that a year later after that candid shot i took of them snuggling on a couch, i would be shooting their wedding on a less hot summer day.
so beware…maybe having me take your picture as a guest at a wedding will be the new “bouquet toss” omen…you’re next! venue: tanglebank garden | caterer: brambles bistro (the food was INCREDIBLE) | dress: everything but the groom | make-up artist: becky austin | bride’s hair: kevin hughes

it’s engagement season…one of my favorite times of year. spending time with couples who are in love is inspiring, there’s just no getting around it. i feel like if captain hook or the joker had surrounded themselves with people who were in love, they would have lived their lives much differently. thoughts?
while you ponder that, here are a few snippets from some recent engagement sessions – can’t wait for their spring/summer weddings!!
corey&ashley: the perfect winter morning…aside from the fact that corey kept trying to shove/convince ashley to jump into the frozen lake.
brad & sarah: could her scrunched nose smile be any cuter? probably not. i love these two and not just because they are incredibly good looking. their hearts are golden. really truly.
matt & sam: they booked me without having met me, which made me adore them that much more. their love story is incredible…let’s just say don’t write off high school reunions as a place to reignite that spark!

well, you’ve probably heard me refer to these two as the smiliest couple on the planet and they certainly didn’t disappoint on their wedding day. it was raining pretty hard at times and they wouldn’t let it get them down, even after one of the groomsmen fell in the mud and was covered nearly from head to toe (i’m not even exaggerating) before i had taken a single picture of the wedding party. thank the lord for dutch farmers and their big, empty unfinished barns!!
they are part of a big family and a tight knit farming community and it was pretty fun to hear all of the tales from both sides of wild driving and mischief making. i knew there was a twinkle behind those smiles that told a bigger story 🙂

so. much. laughter. these two know how it’s done.
so maybe it was nervous laughter, but hey, i will take it. then again, maybe it was fearful laughter as richie’s friends and family were all nearby working in the barn and he was terrified they might see him playing model. let’s just say it was joy bubbling over from the prospect that in a couple of short months they will be gazing into their love’s eyes, saying their vows and walking away husband and wife. yeah, let’s say that.
