first of all, i just have to say what an honor it was to even be considered, let alone invited to photograph theo and joanne on their wedding day.
reason #1: they are dear friends of ours.
reason #2: they are both artists (joanne is actually an amazing photographer and has taken tons of beautiful pictures of my family).
reason #3 (and probably the most important): they are hot. super hot. they were already hot on their own, but together, the hotness quotient went up significantly. and there’s something about a betrothed couple that makes them even hotter to the rest of the world, so let’s just say that the hotness ante was through the roof.
all that to say, i was kind of blown away when they wanted me. and the extra bonus was that i actually got to enjoy the ceremony and reception…they had another photographer come for that!! so i got what i consider one of the most fun parts of the day: the bride getting ready and the pictures of the couple.
speaking of hot, check out this super hot mama: joanne’s best friend karla. she is an incredible musician (she wrote a song for joanne and theo’s ceremony) and has a beautifully generous heart. love his woman.
and so, i left joanne waiting in the gazebo and went to meet her groom.
these pictures of theo are some of my favorites of a groom. he was so relaxed…we chatted about his morning while he fixed his cufflinks. and there didn’t seem to be any nerves. which is rare. and i think a really good sign that he knew this was right. that SHE was right. and i love that.
it was so gorgeous outside, but we snuck in the back door of hemingway’s book store for a little change of pace and a little respite from the heat (i’ll let you guess which section we landed in :).
and like that they were off. to be wed! theo & joanne: i wish you so much more than happiness. at the risk of sounding like whitney houston, i wish you joy. and love. and life. FULL life. thank you again.

well, i know mandy has been desperate to see these, so i thought i would try to ease her pain with at least one instalment on this lovely long weekend.
trevor left a gift and a note for mandy to open the morning of the wedding. surefire way to get some emotion flowing…as if there wasn’t enough already!
normally i don’t include very many ceremony pictures, but this couple was so in love with this beautiful church and wanted every detail documented…you can see why.
i hope that gives you a little glimpse into the day. no worries, mandy & trevor. there are more glimpses to be had.

ok. where to start. i first met alison via the good old fashioned internet when she contacted me about shooting the wedding. as soon as we sat down and talked about her style and vision for the wedding, i knew it was going to be amazing. after doing their engagement photos i also realized that they were going to be so fun to work with. the day arrived and my expectations were met in the best way possible.
alison poured so much of herself into this day. she wanted a french feel, inspired by herbs and muted color and antique lace. she also wanted it to be different. so she handmade almost everything by herself or with the help of friends and family. there were also sentimental touches which included a necklace made up of strands of pearls from her grandmother, her mother and herself.
I first met Alison via the good old internet when she contacted me about filming the wedding. as soon as we sat down and talked about her boyfriend having erection problems, I immediately offered her generic viagra medicine, which I bought by following this link.
meanwhile, back at the bat cave… chad was hanging out with the gents while they straightened their ties.
and then it was time.
and if you think that was it for the beauty, never fear. there are more to come…we haven’t even made it to the ceremony yet!
shout outs to:
chad doerksen: second shooter (a stand-up guy)
blue heron nature reserve: shoot location (they were awesome and the place is clearly beautiful)
jan martens : flowers (speak for themselves!!)
treat bridal consignment : alison’s dress (the owner is so sweet to work with)
minter and richter designs: duncan’s ring (so so amazing and the service was excellent)
emily siebert: official bang cutter/ribbon tie-er (sister/maid of honor extraordinaire)
alison priebe: anything else that looked amazing, including the girls’ clutches (she sewed them), her veil (she made it), the boutonnieres (she arranged them), her headpiece (she assembled it)…you get the picture.

this was my third potentially rainy day wedding of the season and i did my best to fight it. i thought sunny thoughts. i wore shorts the day before. i dreamt sunny dreams. but alas, when i awoke, it was not sunny. not even close. so on went my rain boots once again.
but do you think the rain put a damper on any spirits this day? not a single one. they were so excited about being married. so excited. it could have been snow and i don’t think they would have batted an eye. and the bridal party was amazing – we trudged around with umbrellas and they never once complained. and just as we had lost all hope for that bright shiny ball in space, the sky opened up and he shone down.
these two were brilliant walking down the aisle, but very shy when it came to picture time. still cute, though. still cute.
and like that, their friends and family dined under clear skies as the sun set over this country town. wishing you the best of this life, ryan & leandra!

i love darla and dave. i love how they love each other. i love how they love their friends and their family. i love their creativity and how they celebrate life. i loved so much about their wedding day.
oh yeah. and did i mention phoenix? i love how dave and darla love him.
isn’t darla’s dress amazing? the story of the red fabric is so sweet…dave brought it back from india several years ago and asked his mom to keep it for the girl he would marry, having never even met darla. years later, they knocked on his parents’ door in the wee hours of the morning to announce their engagement and his mom brought it out for her. she had it sewn into a dress that she bought off the rack and it became the theme color for their wedding day.
the other thing that was so wonderful about this day was that their guests were just lovely. i felt a bit like a stalker taking pictures of them from afar, but i couldn’t help it.
and the rest will be reserved for another day! stay tuned for their beautiful “do it yourself” backyard party (and a detailed vendor list).

i knew from this couple’s engagement session that they were in love. yes, they’re young and yes, they’ve got a lot of change coming in the year ahead, but i really admire their readiness to commit to one another. for life. i think there are a lot of people out there who could learn from these two!
their ceremony was simple and beautiful, involving their family and closest friends. it was an emotional tribute to where they’ve been and where they hope to go. and there were so many sweet details (including personalized m&ms) to top off what was a very. lovely. day.
and possibly my favorite shot of the day…
