after grabbing a traditional “pre-engagement photo” meal of perogies and sausage from the yellow barn, we braved slightly treacherous roads and set off into the wilderness. this b-e-a-utiful couple froze their toes and braved the arctic front all for the sake of documenting their love…do i hear a collective sigh?

oh engagements. i have to tell you, they are my absolute favorite sessions to do. there’s something about engaged love that is totally unique…there’s that sense of anticipation mingled with a little tension and a lot of chemistry. it just can’t be replicated.
here are a few of my favorites (because i couldn’t possibly include them all) from this year:
engagement pictures can also really reflect the personality of the couple as they can dress comfortably and we can incorporate fun details of their relationship into the session. i’m so excited that the majority of my 2012 couples have chosen to do engagement pictures because it’s also a great chance for me to get to know them before the wedding and for them to get comfortable in front of the camera. can’t wait for the coming year!

what do peacock feathers, moustaches, vintage pearls and a rolls royce have in common? i’m so glad you asked. why, jeff & stephanie’s wedding, of course. it was a blustery november day, but nothing was going to dampen the spirits of these two. they trudged through mud and rain in the frigid cold because they were going to get married and the weather was not going to have a say in when, where or how it happened. and it happened beautifully.
there were certainly bumps along the way (i.e. a bridesmaid dress fiasco days before the wedding which had the mother-of-the-bride stuck behind a sewing machine and did i mention the reception ended up with the couple making a trip to the emergency room…?), but i’m sure everyone would agree it turned out to be a great day.
the ceremony was held in a gorgeous catholic church in aldergrove and even though movember was in full force amongst the groomsmen, everyone looked quite dapper.
there were so many pretty details from the bird adorned branches to the lights to the personalized wine bottles. their family and friends were quite the team, coming together to make everything perfect.
jeff & stephanie: i know not everything went as planned, but i feel like the picture above kind of sums it up. the two of you, walking into life surrounded by friends and family, embracing your circumstances with smiles on your faces. you two have an amazing future ahead.

first of all, i just have to say what an honor it was to even be considered, let alone invited to photograph theo and joanne on their wedding day.
reason #1: they are dear friends of ours.
reason #2: they are both artists (joanne is actually an amazing photographer and has taken tons of beautiful pictures of my family).
reason #3 (and probably the most important): they are hot. super hot. they were already hot on their own, but together, the hotness quotient went up significantly. and there’s something about a betrothed couple that makes them even hotter to the rest of the world, so let’s just say that the hotness ante was through the roof.
all that to say, i was kind of blown away when they wanted me. and the extra bonus was that i actually got to enjoy the ceremony and reception…they had another photographer come for that!! so i got what i consider one of the most fun parts of the day: the bride getting ready and the pictures of the couple.
speaking of hot, check out this super hot mama: joanne’s best friend karla. she is an incredible musician (she wrote a song for joanne and theo’s ceremony) and has a beautifully generous heart. love his woman.
and so, i left joanne waiting in the gazebo and went to meet her groom.
these pictures of theo are some of my favorites of a groom. he was so relaxed…we chatted about his morning while he fixed his cufflinks. and there didn’t seem to be any nerves. which is rare. and i think a really good sign that he knew this was right. that SHE was right. and i love that.
it was so gorgeous outside, but we snuck in the back door of hemingway’s book store for a little change of pace and a little respite from the heat (i’ll let you guess which section we landed in :).
and like that they were off. to be wed! theo & joanne: i wish you so much more than happiness. at the risk of sounding like whitney houston, i wish you joy. and love. and life. FULL life. thank you again.

the reason this is my favorite part of the wedding day is because it’s usually the most chill/emotionally intense moment for the couple. especially if the pictures were done ahead of time. now they’re really married. and the stress of the ceremony and standing up in front of all of those people is over. and they’re on the verge of the biggest party they’ve ever hosted and all the work is done (or at least now someone else is doing it!). mostly, though, it’s the love. the love is thick. and i get to be the luckiest person on earth for just a moment because i get to witness it.
you were all so lovely and gracious…thanks for inviting me into your day!
