a british girl and a mennonite walk into a church. an hour later, they walk out husband and wife. not much of a punch line, but it’s the truth!
jo and i have been talking about this day for a long time and she’s been dreaming about it for a lot longer. being a textiles designer, she is all about the details…the layering of color and texture and delicate intricacies that the average person might overlook. so you can imagine the focus as she undertook each project and spent months coordinating and creating.
dillon and i have not been talking about this day at all. and i have a feeling he hasn’t been dreaming about it quite as much as jo either. but i tell ya, he was certainly ready to marry his bride. and once the whole “standing up in front of people saying stuff” part of the day was over, he was so happy and relaxed.
family and friends from near, far and somewhere in between came and partied until well after sunset. what a wonderful sight.

sam is a videographer and adriana a budding photographer, so you can only imagine the creative feast for the eyes their wedding was! the natural beauty of the rustic property decorated by adriana and her team of crafting warriors culminated in a beautifully magical backdrop for what was truly a special day.
sam & adriana’s engagement picture session was my most popular post on this blog to date, so i was a little nervous about trying to “top” that with their wedding. but there’s something about a wedding that evokes so much emotion and draws out so much pure love…looking back on these pictures, i “feel”. which is all i can hope for. i hope you see and feel the day right along with me, even if you weren’t able to be there in person.
recognize the movie poster sam is re-enacting below…?
though sam now makes movies himself, his love for the movies started at a young age where he attempted to smuggle himself along on a date night by hiding in the backseat of the car while his parents were getting ready to leave. so it only made sense that the reception would revolve around the couple’s shared love for the movies, from the “ticket stub” seating chart to the outdoor theatre complete with candy and popcorn, no detail was forgotten. there were so many personal touches as well, including hundreds of bundled love letters on each table that adriana’s grandparents had handwritten to one another dating back over 60 years. it’s amazing to see the legacy of love and faith that both families have left for their children…what an incredible example for them to build their marriage on.

this wedding holds an extra special place in my heart, not only because the couple is amazing, but because the ceremony was held in the church i attended as a young girl. it was so neat to be back inside the sanctuary with the wooden pews and the big windows…lots of memories here. i may or may not have been surprised by my first kiss in a sunday school room closet.
i love the look on jordy’s face when he saw jocelyn for the first time. he kept saying throughout the day “how in the world did i get a bride this beautiful?” so great.
i loved having the privilege of watching you two walk into this new life together. all the best!

back in december, emma contacted me to let me know that she was engaged and would like to book me for the wedding. a couple weeks later, i received an e-mail from a girl named joanne. coincidentally, she had the same last name as emma. she was planning to be engaged and was getting married a week before emma. curious? or maybe not so curious. they’re sisters, of course! and i am so excited that i get to shoot both of their weddings. they have similar personalities, but they continue to tell me that their weddings are going to be completely different…i can’t wait to see what they’ve dreamed up!
i met brandon & emma on the beach and though it had threatened rain, it turned out to be a lovely evening.

ok. chad & emilie. so i may or may not have been privy to the fact that these two were going to tie the knot this summer slightly before it was official. i may or may not have received a message that said “do you have these dates free? because there might be en event we would like you to attend on one of these dates”. and i may or may not have been absolutely, ridiculously over the top giddy with anticipation knowing that i got to hang out with these two on one of the most important days of their lives.
now enough with the may or may nots. here’s what i know for certain: chad and emilie were meant for each other. so totally perfect fit kind of material here. chad is kind and and intelligent and incredibly gifted and always “stoked” about something. emilie is beautiful and sweet and joyful and even though she’s probably the purist person on earth, has a way of saying normal things in a funny voice that makes them sound kinda dirty (it’s amazing). as individuals they make me smile. as a couple, they make me beam. they both have huge hearts and love to serve. and they are so smitten with each other – it’s just written all over their faces. so you know you don’t even want to get me started on their day…i just need to stop talking and show you the goods.
chad & emilie chose to reserve the wedding party for family, but wanted to include a larger group of friends, so we had them meet us to take a few pictures before the ceremony.
thank you for including me – i honestly loved every moment.

so much laughter. so. much. laughter. the whole day was infused with joy. they even responded to the bloopers with joy, including the ring bearer running into a post right before the ceremony and the bride dripping hot wax on her arm during the candle lighting. what a crazy, fun day!
stephen was so ready to get his bride.
…and she was so ready to be gotten.
i loved how involved the whole family was, from both the dads officiating to the moms lighting the candles and sisters reading scripture. the value they place on their family was so evident.
apparently the first kiss also had the approval of the ring bearer.
seeing as it was a dessert only reception, a little snack break was in order at you know where…
and seeing as andrea LOVES christmas, what better way to celebrate their love than to throw a christmas party in the middle of may!
cheers to you for having the wedding you wanted – it suited you both to a tee!

family. a word with broad definition. a word that has incredible emotion attached to it. a word that cannot be summed up in one picture, or by one “make up”.
megan is part of a big, loving family. a mom, dad, 4 sisters and a brother. the driessens = a large family. megan has a baby. megan + dom = a little family. megan loses her mom which results in a large family with a big hole, yet still. a family. kevin comes along and asks if he can join the little family. with him, comes another large family that embraces the little family as if it were its own. and here we sit with one huge, beautiful family.
kevin and megan’s wedding day was full of life and remembrance and celebration of the hope that is their future together. now that is what i call family.
this fella got all up in our business and was pretty certain i wasn’t actually going to take a picture of him. he thought wrong.
