it’s engagement season…one of my favorite times of year. spending time with couples who are in love is inspiring, there’s just no getting around it. i feel like if captain hook or the joker had surrounded themselves with people who were in love, they would have lived their lives much differently. thoughts?
while you ponder that, here are a few snippets from some recent engagement sessions – can’t wait for their spring/summer weddings!!
corey&ashley: the perfect winter morning…aside from the fact that corey kept trying to shove/convince ashley to jump into the frozen lake.
brad & sarah: could her scrunched nose smile be any cuter? probably not. i love these two and not just because they are incredibly good looking. their hearts are golden. really truly.
matt & sam: they booked me without having met me, which made me adore them that much more. their love story is incredible…let’s just say don’t write off high school reunions as a place to reignite that spark!

i adore these two. we met briefly at a wedding last summer, but the first time we sat down together to chat about their own wedding, i knew we would be a great match (and i say we because it’s super important that you feel a connection with your photographer! sermon over). i’m greatly anticipating their summer wedding, just so i get a chance to hang out with them again.

some of the important life lessons i learned during my time with ryan & brittin: 1. cookie butter. eat it. 2. don’t insult ryan’s taste in women’s style or else the session will end abruptly and awkwardly. 3. where to buy the most effective and powerful green, NOT red, laser pointer you have ever laid eyes upon. 4. all people worth knowing have the fresh prince theme song memorized. i think that’s about it…i basically feel set for life now.
at brittin’s suggestion, i met them at ryan’s house and the property where they will be married next year. they made pancakes (as ryan hadn’t yet eaten his first or second breakfast) and chatted about life and marriage before heading out into the crisp fall air to explore the farm.

i know jenn has been itching to see these. thanks for waiting so patiently – here are a few to whet your appetite!
jenn had a picture of her grandfather who passed away on her bouquet. this is his sweet wife seeing it for the first time.

the conversation went something like this:
“we decided to save our first kiss until our engagement”
“wow! that’s a big deal”
“well…we only dated for 7 weeks, so we didn’t have to wait that long”
um…say wha??? how awesome is this! while his pastor would like to take credit for setting them up, mat had been working behind the scenes to make sure their paths crossed after he heard about how great (and cute) this girl was. and obviously his work paid off as the time between when they met and will say their vows comes in under 6 months. theirs is a whirlwind love story which i am so excited to document.

you would be hard pressed to find a bride as giddy as this. or a father of the groom as delighted as this, for that matter. there was a whole lot of joy to go around on this day.

levi & lisa are dear friends, so you can imagine my delight when they invited me to photograph their wedding day. levi is absolutely devoted to his girl…one of my favorite stories about his early desire to please her came in the form of a bike ride. a group of friends decided to bike to the lake: only about 30 km each way and since lisa was going, levi figured this would be the perfect time to impress her. what he didn’t realize was that these friends he was riding with were serious cyclists, like the “let’s ride from BC to Mexico for fun” kind of serious. they actually stopped by our house on the way there and i wondered who this fresh faced stranger was and which one of the many girls on this ride he might be sweet on 🙂 needless to say, this was not the easy ride he had expected…approaching the lake, you are required to ascend a serious hill which slowed him down considerably, but he thought “the way home will be fine because it’s downhill.” but sure enough, the way down was slow as well and he found the group waiting for him as he plodded along far behind. finally, he told them to go ahead and he would meet them at home…only to get a flat tire and be stuck in the middle of nowhere with no phone or gas station in sight.
as you can see, this dude is committed. which is one of the reasons i know their marriage will be great. their day was that of dreams…they met in the forest for a first look and then took communion together, laying the foundation for the rest of the day. it was full of joy, tears, remembrance and hope and i’m so glad i got to be there for it all.
lisa’s grandpa was wearing the same suit and bow tie he wore on his wedding day, 50+ years ago. and it still fits!!

andrew & brittany’s wedding was literally a breath of fresh air. in the wedding realm, sometimes it feels like everyone is competing to see who can have the most extravagant affair. while their wedding was not short on beauty, these two were so totally focused on what was important: the commitment they were making to each other. when brittany and i first met, she explained that things would be simple…there were a few details she was excited about, but otherwise she was just happy to be getting married to the one she loved. they had been enduring a long distance relationship while he was in australia and she was so thrilled they were soon going to be in the same place together, walking the next steps of their journey as a married couple.
and finally, a polaroid scan from the winery:
congratulations, andrew & brittany!
