when i met adam & bethany to do their maternity pictures, we had no idea that it would have been our last opportunity to take them. right after our session, bethany messaged me saying “we really feel SO glad to have that done as we are definitely feeling more ready to welcome this baby into our lives”. the night i posted them, bethany’s water broke.
though i don’t do a lot of pictures with props, these two are world travelers and intend to set out on more adventures as a family of three, so the suitcases seemed fitting.
oh what a blessed gift you hold in your arms! talk about glowing parents – through the tired eyes, i see that light and know that your lives will never be the same. love you!

it would not be even close to an exaggeration to say that these boys came bounding into this session. they were so excited. the photo on the top left is literally the first shot I took. off and running. and the thing i loved the most about this family was that they were prepared to be themselves! we played, we ran, we laughed, we cried (some tears due to actual sadness, some due to the frigid cold wind) and there was a lot of huddling and cuddling to keep warm. there was not a lot of posing, or “cheesing”…and to me, these pictures speak life!

i gotta be honest…kind of felt like i entered the twilight zone with this one. morning light filtering through the changing trees. impeccably dressed little girls. a 15 year-old boy who had been up until 2am but was completely cooperative and may be the only one who was actually looking at the camera/smiling/eyes open in nearly every picture. three drop-dead gorgeous women. and the thing that really threw me off: grown men who actually didn’t seem to mind having their picture taken (ladies – give us some tips? did you bribe them? were you secretly holding a gun to their backs?).
i was first introduced to rachel when i got to be a part of the old school market, an amazing vintage/handmade sale that she and her business partner coordinated earlier this year. when they decided to host another one in fall, they invited me to document the day for them and i’m so glad i did because i got to know her better! rachel is generous and kind, super organized and creative (check out her business, birch + bird vintage home interiors and you’ll see what i’m talking about). she and her family are moving down to florida, so that was one of the big reasons they wanted to get family pictures done while everyone was still in town.
sometimes i save the best for last, but this time i’m going to throw my absolute favorite from the session at you right off the top. ready?
and finally, the reason half of these people even exist: mom & dad. it’s a big anniversary for them this year which is certainly something to celebrate!

triple threat alert: andrianne is not only a gifted photographer, an amazing hair stylist and an incredible mom…she’s also super hot. and married to a great guy. which kind of seems unfair, you know? either way, when she asked if i would take some pictures of their newly expanded family, i jumped at the chance. i’ve said it before and will say it again: it’s such an honor when a fellow photographer asks me to take their picture. she had taken lots of the little man on his own, so we focused more on pictures of the three of them, which is so fun because my favorite thing about baby sessions is watching parents interact with these little creatures. so much genuine emotion…i just get to sit back and watch it unfold.
we fit a whole lot into about 30 minutes and these guys were such troopers. thank you again!

so, if you happen to be a jealous person, you might want to stop looking at my blog for awhile. because i’ve been taking pictures of so many ridiculously good-looking people lately, i can hardly look at my own blog anymore.
i met tasha at the fieldstone vintage market (which incidentally is happening again on december 3!!)and she booked me on the spot. a few weeks later, i met up with her lovely family at the park and the day couldn’t have been more perfect.

misty had wanted family pictures done for awhile and after seeing her cousin dave’s wedding pictures, she settled on having me take them. i’m SO glad – this family is amazing. girls that wear dresses…and climb trees. what more could you ask for? seriously.
they co-own a bike shop in fort langley (they sell. they rent. they fix. they have a sweet mission statement which includes the line “We also believe that cycling is the most amazing tactical sport ever conceived. Really, it’s not even debatable”. in short, you should go check them out.) so they wanted to incorporate bikes into the session.
i love the next shot. a lot.
misty is running for council in langley. if you live there, please go check out her platform and make sure you get out to vote!

with this little, we got the best of both worlds. started off smooshed and sleepy and ended awake and happy. she’s a sweet one and reminds me of my babies because she’s got some meat on her bones 🙂
i had taken pictures of her cousin a week previous and am already imagining these two as best buds in a few years, getting into their mom’s make-up and torturing their older brothers with boy band music and girly attitude.
meet landon. he’s silly. i can’t imagine where he got it from…his parents are both so serious.

i had so much fun with this family. hilda was wise to suggest a location where her kids could do lots of exploring as they are definitely most comfortable in the great outdoors. there were only a few falls in the creek…what’s the fun in exploring if you don’t have soggy feet?
one of the things i love to do during family sessions is steal away the mom and dad for a few on their own. despite the chaos that is likely ensuing around us, it’s so worth it! especially for the husband…any opportunity to snuggle with his wife in public and have her sole attention for even a moment has him signing up to have family pictures taken again in a flash (take note, ladies). this was no exception and was actually a priority as they haven’t had any pictures done together since their wedding and their wedding pictures didn’t even turn out because the photographer’s camera wasn’t working.
