so i’m starting to realize i’m a gusher. i never thought i was someone who would go on and on about a cute baby or much of anything for that matter, but here i am. a gusher. hanging out with these two confirmed it. thankfully, i had my lovely friend gemma along assisting me, so every five minutes i could turn around and whisper “do you believe how cute this is?” or “oh my word. could this get any better?”. so i guess i’m just going to have to embrace it. and i have a feeling i might convert you into one after you see these pictures. go ahead. gush away.
josh happens to be a musician (if you haven’t clued into that yet) and has some beautiful music available here. i may have been lucky enough to have him play at my birthday party this year, so i also know from experience that he sounds great live. go here to book a show or see where he’s playing.
one last note: this is my assistant gemma. she is pretty. and a lifesaver. and a good light testing subject.

i feel like i’ve been dwelling in love town lately and i’ve got to say, i don’t mind it at all. this past week held three weddings and an engagement shoot…all unique and lovely couples with completely different styles and personalities. but all very much in love.
i met carolyn a couple of years ago when she was spending a lot of time hanging out in our basement. i haven’t seen her in awhile, so it was so fun to reconnect and meet her main squeeze/soon to be husband.
these two are getting married in ontario in october and i’m so sad i won’t get to be there because i know carolyn is going to be the most beautiful bride. can i get an amen?

i was first introduced to jon & latisha via a phone call from jon’s mom who used the words “artistic” and “big holes in their ears” to describe them. that was all i needed.
not only are these two incredibly cute and totally natural in front of the camera, they have two life altering events to look forward to: their wedding in just under two weeks (which yours truly gets to photograph) and a baby girl who is joining their family in the fall. 2011 will be their year to remember.
we had to fit a couple belly pictures in, just for good measure.

when i started corresponding with alison, one of the first things she mentioned was that she and duncan loved to fish. she also used the word “weird” to describe them as a couple, which her mother quickly redefined as “quirky”. so with those two things in mind, they picked a location and i described my inspiration for their engagement shoot as huck finn meets norman rockwell. confused yet? well you won’t be when you see how beautifully it all came together 🙂
did i mention that alison’s parents own a very successful photography studio? and that alison used to work for them? totally not intimidating at all. thankfully alison and duncan were completely flexible and up for anything i had to throw at them. case in point:
we laughed a lot. duncan was shocked when i knew the word emo because he had assumed i was about 45 and we learned of alison’s “irrational” fear of dead bodies (isn’t everyone afraid of dead bodies?!). i know their wedding (let alone their lives together) is going to be completely unique and i’m thrilled that i get to be the one to capture all the details. and by the way: quirky = wonderful.

when i left home, it was rainy and grey, but as soon as i hit the beach the sun emerged. these two are delightful…totally relaxed, fun, stylish, outdoorsy, incredibly cute together – made my job easy. not to mention they kind of look like movie stars being chased by the papparazzi, don’t they?
i think i may have failed to mention silly. they (or shall i say she) are also very silly. which i love. because without silly, you’d never get a picture of a bride-to-be pretending to be a seagull.
and so after a little playing with shadows and a quick dip in the frigid water (you guys are hard core), we were done. i am beside myself with excitement that i get to shoot their burnaby mountain wedding in august. does anybody know what kind of wildlife they have up there? i’ll have to get seana to start working on her impressions 🙂

the cherry blossoms. a clear and beautiful indication that a new season is upon us. we could call this couple “engaged”, but that’s kind of boring. let’s say they’re in the blossom stage.

everything about this session was green. from the lush forest which was accentuated by ALL the rain (which we got caught in the middle of) to the “rescuing” of salmonberry bushes for private gardens to talk of politics on the way home.
i think i’ve watched too many movies, though, because as we drove up gravel logging roads and trudged further into the forest, i quickly scanned my memory through all the interactions i’d had with this couple to make sure i hadn’t wronged them in any way because this sure seemed like the perfect location to “finish me off”. thankfully that was not their plan and we had a great time in one of their favorite places in the world. a place i probably never would have had the opportunity to discover on my own!
i learned so much about climbing on this little adventure of ours. i’m pretty sure that just talking about it has equipped me with the skills to be an expert climber like these two. but maybe i should test that theory out at an indoor gym first…just to make sure i’m right…
one thing i learned was that all the rocks have been named after the first person to clean them (remove all the moss, etc.) to prepare them for climbing. they also name the “problems” (the routes up the rock) after the first person to navigate their way up. all that to say, the rock below was named after the gentleman who is the subject of this session. he and a group of friends have put together a climbing guidebook for this area, so while we were there he was taking his own pictures of the rocks to include in their next publication.
i’m looking forward to the wedding this summer!
