this couple has a piece of my heart. i don’t even know what to say about them without getting all mushy. so i’ll refrain…at least until their wedding post.
lucky for you, this is only part one! and if mr. balloon knocked your socks off, just wait until you see what’s in store for part two…

so, i leaked a couple of these pictures on facebook and the general consensus is that they are probably the best looking couple ever. i don’t really think God makes people much more gorgeous than this.
i am always so blown away when a photographer asks me to shoot them. secretly i’m hoping they might, but never actually believe they will. which is why the initial e-mail correspondence between adriana and i contained A LOT of caps…i wanted her to know just how EXCITED i was they had asked ME.
sam’s family has a cabin on gabriola island where these two have spent a lot of time and they really wanted to bring a gabriola feel to the pictures. so with a sandwich and a bag of apples in hand, we headed straight to the ocean.
i literally CAN NOT WAIT for your wedding in august.

to me, engagement pictures speak love. especially on the guy’s part. about 80% of the time (in my experience), the guy is less comfortable having his picture taken. they go along with it because it’s what their lady wants. most guys are okay on the wedding day, because it’s what they expect, but engagement pictures? “um, honey, you failed to mention that getting engaged meant we had to have our picture taken. more than once. on a weekend. when i would rather be fishing. or doing almost anything other than having to stand in front of a stranger in nice clothes in a field…smiling.”
so most of the time, i’m just really glad the guys show up. and usually once i mention that they’re going to get to cuddle up to their fiance and then i make fun of myself for using the word “cute” too often, they loosen up and we get great pictures. at any rate, i can tell these guys really love these girls just by their presence.
in this case, tim may have been feeling awkward, but he did a good job of hiding it. these two have been a couple for six years so they are really comfortable together. he and alison have such great chemistry and even put up with me making them traipse around a stranger’s farm in wintery cold conditions. don’t even get me started on the location…from the diversity in the pictures, it looks like we could have visited five different spots!
oh and p.s. these two could be models, could they not?
i’m delighted that i get to photograph your wedding in august – alison has a fun vision and great style, so you can bet it will be a beautiful one!

after grabbing a traditional “pre-engagement photo” meal of perogies and sausage from the yellow barn, we braved slightly treacherous roads and set off into the wilderness. this b-e-a-utiful couple froze their toes and braved the arctic front all for the sake of documenting their love…do i hear a collective sigh?

last year around this time, i was waiting with bated breath for my website to be finished so that i could share it with all of you. i was so happy with how it turned out (which has a little to do with me and A LOT to do with my friends joe malleck: web designer extraordinaire and beth mans: illustrator to the stars…or just to me :).
and what an amazing year it has been! my business has grown by leaps and bounds, i’ve met tons of amazing people and made new friends that i wouldn’t have otherwise and i’ve had so much fun creating.
so because you have spent the last year gifting me, it’s time for me to return the favor. i asked all of my 2011 clients to submit a picture that they loved. one that they wanted to grace the walls of their home. and now you get to choose who will win a 16X20 canvas from me.
all you have to do is:
1. go to facebook. like my page.
2. comment here after you’ve done so and vote on the picture that’s your favorite.
the person with the most votes….wins!!
now to make it a little more fun for all of you voters, i’ve called some of my amazingly talented, local vendor/creator friends and asked them to contribute a prize for YOU!! i will be doing three separate draws for gift baskets and a piece of refinished vintage furniture, so you have lots of opportunity to win.
in order to win the baskets, i’m going to ask you to visit each of the vendors’ facebook pages and like them. this is a must for you to win these amazing goodies.
let me tell you more about them (and follow the links to their pages)…

vintage home (facebook): Colleen is amazing – she has a great eye for design and knows how to make something beautiful out of things other people get rid of.
champion jack’s emporium (facebook): This is such a sweet store and a great addition to Abbotsford’s downtown core. If you haven’t been in to check out their huge collection of vintage clothing, you should go today! And if you’re not in abbotsford, find them on etsy.
birch + bird vintage home interiors (facebook) Rachel and Lily are the organizers of the Fieldstone Vintage Market. I’ve gotten to know them over the past year and they not only have great taste, but they are lovely people! Check out their blog…they have me imagining my dream home several times a week.

so it snowed. kinda wasn’t expecting that. i think a lot of people around these parts had figured winter might be over. but i suppose that’s what we get for being all cocky about our mild weather.
i got a new lens recently and have been challenging myself to use it to its full potential, which often means taking a step back. i love the dynamic of being up in someone’s face, just because i produces the look and feel and opportunity to interact that i adore. i must say, though, that i’m also loving the idea of capturing the big picture, literally and figuratively. there’s something about taking in all of the surroundings that can actually make a picture more personal. so keep your eyes open for more of that. to come.
it was pretty blowy and not knowing jeff & amy super well, i wasn’t sure what they would be up for. thankfully, they are super troopers. they hopped out of the car and were ready for pretty much anything i asked of them. there was a lot of cuddling and hand holding and a horse and a little snowball fight thrown in for good measure.
how gorgeous is amy in this picture below? seriously…i had to keep it full size. so looking forward to your harrison wedding in a couple of months!

when i heard these two were getting married, i was silently praying “please pick me. please pick me.” and they did!! what a sweet sweet love story theirs is…i’m pumped to be able to document even a small portion of it.
i had been eyeing up this property for awhile and when bethany and jason showed up in their western attire, i knew it would be perfect.
if you know anything about their story, you will know that it begins with pie. to continue the legacy, they stopped off at the chilliwack airport coffee shop which is reported to have the best pie in the world and got one for the road.
we were approaching the end of our time together and i asked them if there was anything else they would like to do/try and bethany was like, “jason can do a backflip.” and you know what a sucker i am for theatrics…
you two are so delightful and i am tickled pink that i get to hang out with you again on what will be a beautiful summer day on harrison lake. can’t wait!

oh engagements. i have to tell you, they are my absolute favorite sessions to do. there’s something about engaged love that is totally unique…there’s that sense of anticipation mingled with a little tension and a lot of chemistry. it just can’t be replicated.
here are a few of my favorites (because i couldn’t possibly include them all) from this year:
engagement pictures can also really reflect the personality of the couple as they can dress comfortably and we can incorporate fun details of their relationship into the session. i’m so excited that the majority of my 2012 couples have chosen to do engagement pictures because it’s also a great chance for me to get to know them before the wedding and for them to get comfortable in front of the camera. can’t wait for the coming year!

on the way up to the golf course in chilliwack where we were going to do the shoot, i spotted this field on the right, overlooking the valley. too good, right?!
we finally made it to the golf course and jeff was like, “okay. hop in the golf cart and follow us”. um, how does one follow when one has never operated a golf cart?! needless to say it took me a few gos, but once i figured out how to drive while clutching my props, trying not to fall out/flip/run over anything or anyone, it was actually kind of fun. look for me on a golf course near you! not playing, just driving…
anyway…learning something new was totally worth it because check out the sweet things we found! we came across a sweet old dilapidated shack and these two were brave enough to climb in.
steph has done a ton of traveling, so the two of them sat down for a bit to talk about where they would like to take each other. let’s just say their tastes vary a bit, but hey, what’s marriage without compromise and adventure, right?!
