becoming a family of four can be a real challenge, especially when you have a toddler with a strong personality, but these lovelies are taking it all in stride. it doesn’t hurt when the newest addition is as adorable as otis is, either. i got to spend an early morning hanging out with them in their beautiful home and it was so sweet to see how they all care for one another, especially how the “little mama” looked out for her brother.

i first met shannon years ago at a wedding – she is a gifted photographer and had been asked by the bride to cover their wedding shooting film. it was so fun to run into her this past year when she was a bridesmaid at a wedding and i was even more thrilled when she called to ask me to document her and andrew’s journey into parenthood. their home is beautiful and their daughter is the sweetest, most delightful little being you’ve ever met. here’s little miss wynn and her adoring parents:

there’s something about seeing a mom smell her new baby…while newborns always carry a mysteriously sweet smell in those early days, it’s more than that. it’s like she’s breathing them in. it’s as close as she can get now that they are on the outside and while it’s still not quite close enough, it satisfies the senses and offers a deeper connection, if only for a moment. one of God’s little gifts to us mothers, i figure.

i will always always always remember delivering this couple’s wedding pictures. she came to the door about a month and a half after the wedding, car running and said, “by the way, keep a spot open for us in 9 months because i’m expecting!” so here we are, about 10 months later, celebrating their first child’s arrival and man alive, is he a sweetheart.

because we know that’s why you’re here. but check this out, these adorable little balls of wonder belong to an amazing family. one that is so full of love and fun and all the best things life has to offer. their mom has the kind of laugh that is explosive and contagious (which come to think of it, sounds like a terrible disease…but I promise you it’s the best disease you’ve ever had) and the way their dad loves his kids is so tender and engaging. and then there’s wick…not sure one little human has ever embodied so much personality (check out his baby pictures taken a year and a half ago).

it’s hard for me to talk about this family without tearing up just a little…so thankfully i’m in the comfort of my own home as i write this and can cry all i want.
it’s a long story and a short one all at once, laced with the strength of love, the power of community and most of all the grace of God. this sweet baby is a miracle, one who was prayed for, cried over and dreamt of for years. so was his sister, born just shy of two years ago, a beautiful girl named quinn who i had the pleasure of meeting just after she arrived. and while these two siblings will never play together in the yard or squabble over legos they share an inexplicable bond. they are both loved deeply by the people who know their parents and they have both greatly impacted the world around them, even in their births. so we walk forward in celebration, remembering the past and living in hope for what the future holds for the zacharias family. welcome asher…we love you so much already!!
